Research is the fulcrum for KIMS in its quest for attaining eminence in Odisha and outside and setting benchmarks in delivering healthcare services. Our doctors have won laurels and appreciations in equal measures both in national and international forums through their pioneering research activities. The Lancet has periodically published the works, apart from national and international journals.

Highlights

  • The Department of Microbiology is carrying out extensive research work in Antimicrobial drug resistance, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, hospital infection control and pediatric infectious diseases.

  • Faculties of the Neurology Department are undertaking research on stroke focussing on cognitive impairment in post stroke and in young stroke cases with collaboration with other departments like Physiology and Internal Medicine.

  • The Department of Physiology is conducting research on cardiovascular physiology, Neurophysiology, sleep physiology, autism, body composition analysis, electrophysiology, Sports Physiology, Yoga, Medical education, Mental health and Respiratory physiology.

  • The Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology has published a study highlighting how heparin can be helpful for Covid medication even before it became the standard of care in all national and international guidelines. Associate Prof. in the Department Dr. Sakir Ahmed was the first Indian to lead a APLAR group of experts for development of practice guidelines on Telemedicine in rheumatology. He collaborated with an international group of authors across three continents to determine outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with different rheumatic diseases.

Achievements

  • An alumnus from the 2011 batch joined master’s in public health at the University of London and another student of the 2012 batch is pursuing her FRCEM at Royal college of emergency medicine, UK.

  • A student from the 2010 batch is doing fellowship at Nottingham, UK.

  • Dr.Anurag Sharma, Pathology PG student of 2015 batch selected in Mayo Cl Mol Path – Cleaveland USA for higher studies.

  • Dr Sakir Ahmed, associate professor with KIMS, was selected for the APLAR-EULAR Exchange Programme in Frankfurt for EULAR 2020. The program recognises outstanding rheumatology professional faculty in both laboratory and clinic-based research.

  • Dr. Abirami C, a 2nd year postgraduate in the Department of DVL, KIMS, brought laurels to the institution by presenting an oral paper titled ‘Innovations to the rescue: Connecting the dots’, which bagged the prestigious ‘Chairman’s Appreciation Award’ at the 31st Biennial Hybrid Conference of the Indian Association of Leprologists (IAL) held in Hyderabad from April 16 – 18, 2021.

  • Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sahu, Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, KIMS received second prize in poster presentation at the 4th International Conference of Childhood Allergies held at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi.

  • Prof. (Dr.) Ramnath Misra, Professor and Head of Rheumatology Department and Dean, R&D, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University has been awarded“Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) Master Award 2021”.

  • Brig Dr S . K.Rath, PROF. AND HOD (O&G) was bestowed the ‘PAPANICOLAU SAMMAN’ for his lifelong contribution to the field of study of cervical cancer.

  • Head Dean Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology Prof Ramnath Misra was conferred the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) MASTER AWARD 2021.
